Fitter for Having It - Conversations
Type 1 diabetes makes sport and exercise harder, but it doesn't have to hold you back. These Conversations share honest, funny, and down-to-earth conversations with people proving what's possible with T1D. These are from everyday people managing daily life with it, through to world champions, elite athletes, ultra-marathon runners, doctors, and researchers. We all go through the same things.
An upside to living with type 1 diabetes for 40 years is that I've met some incredible people who live with it too. My conversations with them are inspiring and down-to-earth at the same time.
My peers and friends with T1D are all amazing, every single one of them. It's just that some of them happen to have done extraordinary things along the way: international rowers, World Cup soccer players, Everest climbers, world champion basketballers, bodybuilders, cross-continent cyclists, doctors, researchers, and big-mountain ultramarathon runners. I'd never have met any of them if it weren't for my diagnosis, and I'm grateful they agreed to share their personal journeys - warts and all.
If you know diabetes, I think you'll find these conversations honest and emotional, inspiring and motivational. They are uplifting, informative, and packed with some gallows humour and top tunes. Every guest shares the song that defines diabetes for them, the spirit animal they'd most want to be, and what they've learned about living life to the full with T1D.
Beautiful things with Lara McSpadden
Post-traumatic growth with Roger Hanney (Part 1)
Inspiration flows both ways with Karolina Sherack
Big gnarly marathons with Roger Hanney (Part 2)
These are personal stories and lived experience, not medical advice. What works for one person with T1D won't work for everyone, and none of this replaces your own care team.
